What is parent coaching ?
I provide therapeutic coaching for parents who want strategies to strengthen and deepen their relationship with their child. Parents often seek coaching when they are struggling with disruptive behavior, academic concerns, family conflict, or have noticed a change in their child’s general demeanor.
A critical component of my work with parents is that I do not position myself as an expert on your child, your parenting, or parenting as a whole. Rather, I utilize my expertise in developmental psychology, behavior, attachment, and early-childhood intervention to help foster curiosity and flexibility as we explore current concerns. I consider cultural, racial, religious and ethnic variables as I strive to better understand your needs . My parenting work combines a little of everything and is tailored to each unique situation. I utilize psycho-education on development and child behavior, age-appropriate boundary setting and discipline, skills to help a child feel more understood and motivated at home, and perhaps most importantly, I help to foster a deeper understanding of your child’s current internal struggles. The more we know, the better we can meet your child’s needs in a way that works for you and your family. I have extensive experience working with parents of children and teens with behavioral challenges, depression, anxiety, and LGBTQIA+ related stress or trauma.
